Position Overview: The Tourism Director is responsible for planning, developing, and executing strategies to position Chester County as a premier travel destination. This role demands a self motivated professional with a strong background in marketing, communications, and tourism development. The ideal candidate is tech-savvy, creative, and highly organized, with a passion for promoting the county’s natural beauty, cultural landmarks, and historical sites. The director will work to attract visitors, boost local spending, and support businesses of all types. By building partnerships and implementing innovative outreach efforts, this position plays a key role in driving economic growth through tourism.


Key Responsibilities:

• Marketing & Promotion

o Develop and manage marketing campaigns to promote tourism via social media, website, email, and print media.

o Design or oversee the creation of promotional materials, including brochures, ads, and digital content.

o Maintain and update the tourism website and event calendars.

o Track digital marketing analytics and adjust strategies for maximum engagement.


• Tourism Development

o Build relationships with local attractions, businesses, and event organizers to create packages and cross-promotions.

o Identify and promote tourism opportunities that highlight the county’s unique character (e.g., history, outdoor recreation, festivals, agriculture).

o Assist in the development and promotion of tourism-related events.


• Administrative & Grant Management

o Oversee and manage the tourism budget o Seek, apply and manage grants or funding opportunities that enhance tourism.

o Prepare reports, presentations, and data summaries for stakeholders and funding bodies.


• Community & Stakeholder Engagement

o Serve as the county’s primary tourism contact and liaison with regional and state tourism organizations.

o Respond to potential visitors’ questions about a county trip o Collaborate with elected officials, hospitality partners, and other local leaders.

o Attend community events


Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in marketing, tourism, communications, public relations, or a related field preferred.

• At least 2-3 years of experience in tourism, marketing, or economic development

• Strong knowledge of digital marketing tools and platforms (social media, website CMS, SEO, analytics).

• Photography and videography experience preferred.

• Graphic design and video editing skills are a plus (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite).

• Excellent communication and public speaking skills. • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects.

• Familiarity with South Carolina’s tourism resources and grant programs (such as A Tax) preferred.

• Willingness to work a non-traditional work schedule.

• Knowledge of Chester County’s tourism industry, attractions, and local culture is a plus.


Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift and carry marketing materials, promotional items, or event equipment (up to 25 pounds).

• Ability to travel within the county and region for promotional events, meetings, and other tourism-related activities.

• Willingness to work evenings or weekends for events and community meetings.


Compensation: Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience, with a target range of $50,000 $60,000. Benefits include paid time off and professional development opportunities.
